Joan Elizabeth Murphy
LEWISTON – Joan Elizabeth Murphy, born March 17, 1942, in Biddeford, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 15, 2022 at home with her loving dog, Pischu, by her side.
All that knew her, knew how much she adored her beloved animals.
After beginning her career at Hollywood Beauty Salon and Hairlines as a local hairdresser, she opened her own beauty salon, Jonies Clip & Curl, where she welcomed her clients into her home.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends to warmer climates.
The true loves of her life were her grandchildren, who she leaves behind, Cody Lessard, Rebecca Alfredson and husband Austin, and Lauren Shain and husband Alex. She recently enjoyed her first great-granddaughter, Vivian-Jeanne Alfredson, who made her heart complete.
She will surely be missed, but her spirit remains with us.
She is survived by her daughter, Tina Lessard and partner Dick Brochu, son-in-law, Peter Lessard; two brothers, Larry Brown and wife Ester and Louis Burgess.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dick Murphy; parents Daisy and Edger Brown; brothers Davis and Roger Brown and sister, Cory Robichaud.
A Liturgy of the Word Service will be held at the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home on Thursday, May 12 at 10 a.m., followed by burial at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery (Mt. Vernon Road) in Augusta. Online condolences may be shared with her family at http://www.albert-burpee.com .

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
