FARMINGTON — University of Maine at Farmington won close twice to sweep a college baseball doubleheader against University of Maine at Presque Isle on Tuesday.

The Beavers (8-19, 6-6 NAC) took Game 1 with a 3-1 victory and then rallied past the Owls (6-25, 3-9) in the fourth inning to slip away with a 10-7 victory in Game 2.

In the first game, Oxford Hills grad Troy Johnson had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, while winning pitcher Riley Bartell (3-2) went the distance, giving up five hits and striking out eight batters. Will Cauchon singled and drove in a run.

The second game proved to be a struggle for the Beavers, who were leading 2-0 after one inning. But the Owls unloaded on UMF in the second inning with seven runs.

However, UMF winning pitcher Aaron Gorsche (2-3) held his ground the rest of his way and kept the Owls silent before being relieved by Will Harriman in the fifth inning.

The Beavers scored eight runs over the course of the third, fourth and fifth innings. Ryan Sargent (three RBIs), Johnson (three RBIs) and Cauchon all homered.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
MADISON 14, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 3 (5 inn.): Hunter Tewksbury and Dan Mercier each homered in the Bulldogs’ (2-1) victory over the Phoenix in Livermore Falls.

The Phoenix committed eight errors during the game.

Madison scored 14 runs in in the first three innings to shorten the game to five innings after the 10-run rule was implemented. Tewksbury got the win on the mound after three innings of pitching before Mercier came on in relief. Eli Timler took the loss for Spruce Mountain.

Eli Moffett doubled for the Phoenix. Each team had five hits.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
MADION 11, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 0: Brooke McKenney threw a perfect game to lead Madison past Spruce Mountain in Mountain Valley Conference softball in Jay.

McKenney struck out six and didn’t walk a batter. Lilly Levesque, Mackenzie Robins, Abi Linkletter, Aribelle Linkletter and McKenney all had multiple hits for the Bulldogs.

Jaydn Pingree took the loss in the circle for the Phoenix.

BOYS LACROSSE
LEWISTON 11, OXFORD HILLS 4: Sophomore Cody Dionne and junior Eli Bigelow each turned in a hat trick, leading the Blue Devils (2-1) past the Vikings (0-3) in Lewiston.

Sophomore Daven Langelier and senior Sam Courtemanche each scored a pair of goals and junior Liam Hutchinson had one for Lewiston.

The Vikings were led by Derrick Brooks, who scored three goals, and teammate Carter Hart had one. Lewiston goalie Brock Rancourt got the win in net with 12 saves.

GIRLS LACROSSE
YORK 22, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER/POLAND 2: Rose Pavuk scored four goals and Clara Pavuk had three goals as the Wildcats (2-0) cruised to a win over the 26ers (1-2) at Gray.

Grace Clayton, Anna Doughty and Sophia Luchette had two goals apiece.

Andrea Smith and Lexie Wallingford scored for the 26ers, and Alexandra Bucci notched an assist.
