Madlyn J. Atkins

LEWISTON – Madlyn Joyce Atkins, 90 years young, of 198 Russell St., Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Russell Park Rehabilitation and Living Center with her loving children by her side.

Madlyn was born on Jan. 28, 1932, and she was the daughter of Leyon and Lillian (Haley) Traynor. She was educated at Lewiston Schools and graduated in the Class of 1950. She married Victor Alexander and they had six wonderful children together. They later separated and she remarried Walter (Wally) Atkins on Oct. 10, 1968. Wally then became a caring stepfather for her children and loved them as if they were his own.

She was employed at Pecks Department Store for many years and later worked as a bank teller for People’s Heritage Bank. She then retired to care for Wally. She was an avid bowler in the Holiday Lanes leagues for many years in Lewiston. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and was a master at puzzles.

Madlyn had many family and friends that she cherished dearly. She loved to entertain and always welcomed anyone into her home. She was known for her delicious peanut butter fudge, strawberry rhubarb jam and her infamous cheese ball. She loved celebrating holidays with her family and would be happy to eat lobster drenched in butter three times a day if she could.

Her greatest pleasure and enjoyment by far, was her family and all the special times and memories they shared together. Madlyn was a loving, devoted, and hard-working wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed.

She leaves behind her three sons, Timothy and Marcia Alexander of Auburn, Gary and wife Chong Alexander of Auburn, Scott and wife Donna Alexander of Auburn and a loving daughter, Vicki Lussier of Minot. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Michelle Alexander and son-in-law, Robert Lussier.

She also has two brothers, Leyon “Sonny” and wife Connie Traynor of Lewiston and Steve and wife Diane Traynor of North Port, Fla. She has several nieces and nephews, but the true loves of her life were her 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her baby brother, Bobby Traynor; her husband, Walter Atkins, her ex-husband, Victor Alexander; two of her sons, Bruce Alexander and David Alexander; her sister, Kathleen Koss; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Alexander.

Madlyn truly touched the lives of all she knew, and while her physical body is gone, her spirit and legacy will live on.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the compassionate staff that cared for her from Russell Park and Androscoggin Home Health Hospice and Palliative Care.
