NORWAY — Norway’s Gingerbread House, at the western end of Main Street, is nearing the completion of its exterior rehabilitation. Plans are nearly completed  for rebuilding the porch along the Main Street side of the building.

A porch structure has been designed to closely reflect the original porch that traversed the building prior to its move. When the original porch was dismantled, much of it was salvaged in the hopes of using it for this project.

What can not be salvaged will be reconstructed in the distinctive “gingerbread” style that has given the building its name. A preservation plan has guided the rehabilitation over the past decade and the exterior will be completed when the porch is complete.

Friends of the Gingerbread House have launched a fundraising appeal for this project and are hoping to find a significant number of “porch partners” who will contribute to this distinctive addition to the current rehabilitation.

On May 14, from 10 a.m. to noon, Friends of the Gingerbread House have scheduled an open house for visitors to tour the building, see the updated work and ask questions about this next phase.
