Maine Music Society Chorale, conducted by Richard Nickerson in his debut season as artistic director, plans to perform an array of songs in a program featuring all-female composers at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at the Gendron Franco Center, 46 Cedar St. in Lewiston.
The concert will open with the Medieval music of Hildegard von Bingen reminiscent of the Gregorian chants. The Chorale also will explore the modern madrigals of Emma Lou Diemer, love songs of Elaine Hagenberg, and the gospel music of Rosephayne Powell. Finally, Nickerson will lead the Chorale on a journey into the more contemporary world with the music of Carole King, Joni Mitchell and others. The variety of genres will provide wonderful listening for everyone and have you moving to the music.
Tickets cost $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and $10 for students.
Tickets are available online at mainemusicsociety.org or by calling 207-333-3386. Tickets, if available, can also be purchased at the door.
