NORWAY — Firefighters from several towns went to Dogwood Drive early Wednesday evening for reports that a trailer was ablaze and that flames were spreading to a nearby building and to the woods.

Norway firefighters were being joined by crews from West Paris, Poland, Otisfield and Mechanic Falls while other towns were called for mutual aid.

The fire was first reported at about 7 p.m. Early reports were that occupants had escaped the burning trailer but that two people may have suffered burns in the blaze.

Oxford police and sheriff’s officials were called to shut down a section of Route 26 around the fire scene. Dogwood Drive is a dead end street off Town and Country Drive, which itself runs off Main Street, Route 26. The address of the home that burned was listed as 2 Dogwood Drive.

By 7:30 p.m., additional crews were being called from Woodstock, Otisfield and Hebron to help with the effort. By that time, it was reported that two structures were on fire.

By 7:45 p.m., the fire was said to be under control, although fire crews were expected to remain on the scene into the night.

Meanwhile, in Wilton around the same time, other departments were being called out to assist with what was described as an “out of control brush fire” near Orchard and Blue Spruce drives. Dixfield and Jay fire departments were joining that effort.
