PARIS — Norway Savings Bank and SeniorsPlus will offer two fraud prevention training sessions for seniors Thursday, May 19, at the First Congregational Church of South Paris, 17 E. Main St.Sarah Porter, the supervisor at the bank’s South Paris branch, and other volunteers from the bank, will provide a one-hour presentation called “Safe Banking for Seniors” focusing on scams and fraud targeting the elderly.“It’s heartbreaking for us at the bank when our customers are victims of fraud,” Porter said. “Awareness is the best defense against these schemes. Unfortunately, unscrupulous people see the elderly as appealing targets. This presentation will arm seniors with the information they need to protect themselves.”Gus Nelson, SeniorsPlus community education supervisor said, “We encounter elder fraud situations here at SeniorsPlus and, while we educate people, it’s often after the perpetrator has committed the crime. There’s nothing like having experts like Sarah and her team from Norway Savings Bank proactively provide this information directly to the people who need it most.”The fraud prevention training sessions will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and from 5 to 6:30 p.m. People may register by calling Gus Nelson at 207-753-6143 or emailing edcenter@seniorsplus.org. There is no charge to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
