Congratulations to Silvi Emami-Greifendorf for being awarded a runner-up spot in Junior Scholastic’s Can You Find Mapman? contest. Silvi was one of 25 students out of over 2,200 students from 34 states, and the only student from Maine, to receive this distinguished honor. This annual Scholastic competition asks students to use geographic clues to find a mystery location and create a map based upon their own research about this locale. This year’s location was Yellowstone National Park, which is celebrating its 150-year anniversary. Silvi did extensive research on the park and the long history of the land and people who came before. She carefully and thoughtfully balanced the relationship between these two elements and was individually recognized by the Junior Scholastic judges for her thoughtful attention to detail in her honoring of the Native American history of Yellowstone.
