100 Years Ago: 1922

Lewiston and Auburn are to have a branch of the Kiwanis club. Many prominent Lewiston and Auburn men are interested. The organization meeting will be held at 12:15 o’clock today in the gymnasium of the Auburn Y.M.C.A building. Portland is the other Maine city to have a Kiwanis club, altho there are 740 clubs In the U.S. with a membership of 70,000. Arthur D. Welch of Portland, a former resident of the Portland club, will be the speaker Friday. The Kiwanis club meets weekly and has for its members representatives of various professions and businesses. “Kiwanis,” says Thomas F. Babb, Jr., District Governor for New England, who is expected here later, “is in every community where it is established, a cross section of the community, business and professional life.”

50 Years Ago: 1972

Personnel of the Androscoggin Sheriff’s Department were called upon Tuesday night to assist in rounding up a bull in Durham. Shortly after 7 p.m. Willard Bowie of the Portland Road, Durham, asked for assistance in controlling one of his bulls which had gotten loose. Deputies Blaine Footman, Origene Lachapelle and Gerald Labrie were dispatched and located the animal on Route nine and in about 40 minutes managed to lead it back to its home.

25 Years Ago: 1997

Bruce Grover’s United States history class at Livermore Falls High School will hold a car show Saturday, May 24 at 11 am in the parking lot. Owners of cars, trucks and other vehicles are invited to show off their vehicles. Car arrival and registration will be at 9 am.
