DEAR SUN SPOTS: This letter is in response to a request published April 1 from a third grade student at the Langley School in Virginia. The student was assigned to teach her classmates about the state of Maine. She wrote, “I’m hoping that you would be willing to send me some items to help me learn more about the best things in your state. You might consider sending items such as postcards, pictures, souvenirs, this letter from the newspaper, or any other unique items that would be useful or show your state pride.” Apparently, she got a very good response. Here is her letter of appreciation sent this week:

Dear Maine residents:

Thank you so much for responding to my letter to the people of Maine. I really appreciate you taking the time to send me a letter with so many details and insights about what it’s like to live in Maine. It was all so neat to see and learn. So many residents wrote me and shared special things. You have a very special state and community.
In May, we are going to have a big “State Fair” where we get to display all the information and items we received. The items that you sent will certainly show all of the wonderful and unique aspects of your state. While Maine may not be the biggest geographic state in the U.S., the enthusiasm in all the letters I received made it one of the most vocal and responsive!!
It really means a lot to me and has been a lot of fun. Now I can’t wait to visit Maine one day. I feel like I know it already. Sincerely, Lila
ANSWER: Thank you, Lila. We Mainers know our state is special and we like to share that as often as we can!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Memorial Day weekend, The Friends of the Maine Wildlife Park will hold its annual plant sale Saturday and Sunday, May 28 and 29. There will be vegetable and flowering plants, as well as hanging flower baskets. Hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will be in the parking lot of the park. All proceeds will go directly to supporting new and updated animal enclosures, enrichment toys for the animals and much more. — Friends of the Maine Wildlife Park
ANSWER: I hope you have a successful sale. Mrs. Sun Spots has visited the park and can say it is a treasure and a wonderful adventure for all ages.
