100 Years Ago: 1922

The annual Junior-Senior party at Jordan High School was held last evening. As the hosts, the Juniors were very successful. President Richard Pettengill of the Junior class welcomed the Seniors, whose President, James J. Roche responded fittingly. The assembly hall was prettily decorated. Music was furnished by a five-piece orchestra. The patronages included: Mrs. Wallace Webber, Mrs. W.E. Fairbanks, Mrs. Elton Chandler, Mrs. N.W. Behner, and teachers, Miss Leonard, Miss Margaret Murphy, Miss Frances Murphy, and Miss Lougee.

50 Years Ago: 1972

Auburn’s urban beautification tree planting program got underway this week and by the end of Friday, 67 trees will have been planted by Auburn Parks and Recreation Department crews. Norris Ingersol, APRD superintendent, said the planting started Wednesday and will continue through next week until all of the 200 trees available are in the ground. The APRD for several weeks has been accepting requests from citizens for tree plantings on their properties. One of the reasons for the program is to replace the main trees that have had to be removed in Auburn, because of Dutch elm disease.

25 Years Ago: 1997

The Lewiston-Auburn Club Toastmasters Club will meet at 6 pm at the Ground Round, 180 Center St. Speakers will include  Deb Hammond, Don Miville, Doc. Beegel, and Dick Gould. Guests are always welcome. Toastmasters International is a world wide education organization dedicated to improving the speaking skills of its members.
