
John Picard tends to his daylilies Monday in the greenhouse that he built himself in Auburn. Picard’s love for daylilies started 26 years ago and he now grows over 300 varieties. Picard breeds his own daylilies, too, and has given them names such as Tangerine Tickles, Chick Magnet, Bobby Dazzler and Purple Tarantula. “This is what I do,” said Picard, who retired from Diamond Phoenix in 2015 after working for the company for 40 years.
