NORWAY — The Norway Museum and Historical Society is initiating a Volunteer Docent program. The mission of the Society, since its founding in 1974, is to bring people together to share, celebrate and learn about Norway’s heritage by collecting, caring for and exhibiting Norway’s historical treasures, by facilitating the collection of and research into family and local history and by providing programs that make history meaningful and engaging for people of all ages.

The Society and its collections of artifacts, photographs, and historical documents have always been managed and operated by a volunteer Board of Trustees, including Charles Longley, Curator/Researcher, and Susan Denison, Curator/Collection Manager. The Volunteer Docent program is overseen by Board Member, Brian Partridge. When the Museum is open to the public, the volunteer docents are being trained to greet visitors, determine the reason for their interest, and provide tours of the exhibits and highlights of the collections that are on display. In the summer, the Society’s regularly scheduled days and times are Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 a,m. Anyone interested in becoming a Volunteer Docent should contact the Norway Museum and Historical Society at 207-743-7377 or e-mail norwaymehistory@gmail.com.
