100 Years Ago: 1922

One dark night not long-ago Mrs. EH. Hodgkins, Coburn street, Auburn, heard the bell ring. and going to the door found, not a May basket filled with good things, but a large bag containing a snow white coon cat, with a blue ribbon around his neck, bearing a card stating its name and pedigree Mrs. Hodgkins was very grateful to the donor, and hopes that no birds and chickens will be missing on “Billy’s” account.

50 Years Ago: 1972

Four Auburn Police Department sergeants are set to take an exam for promotion to lieutenant tonight, at the city building. They are Donald Darling, Roger Ouellette, Robert Tiner Jr. and Richard Keene. The Auburn Civil Service Commission will administer the examination beginning at 7 o’clock, in the council chambers. There is currently one lieutenant vacancy, and one sergeant, as a result of recent retirements. The sergeant’s exam was held last week. The results of tonight’s test, along with those of last week, will be turned over to Police Chief Stephen Smyc who will make the appointments.

25 Years Ago: 1997

The Maine School for Science and Mathematics announces its summer workshop for educators is being held July 14-18. The workshop includes Associated Press Calculus and American Press Computer Science C++. Participants will be housed at the MSSM dormitories in Limestone. Meals will be served at the school cafeteria. The school will provide all necessary  paperwork to satisfy certification requirements for teachers within the state and will assist any participants in securing college credit from their preferred college. Classes will meet for approximately six hour per day.
