Eric Brakey listens to his constituents, even the youngest ones.

When in the Maine Senate, Eric was famous for visiting classrooms to teach kids how Augusta works. During each lesson, Brakey would appoint students “legislators for the day,” take their ideas for new laws, and walk them through the full legislative process: from committee to the governor’s desk.

During one visit, a young girl suggested making it legal to own hedgehogs as pets. Brakey was so impressed with the suggestion that he researched the issue, introduced the bill, and brought the whole sixth grade class to the State House for the public hearing.

They even succeeded in changing the law. What an excellent lesson in civic engagement for these young Mainers.

Maine can really benefit from having someone who cares as deeply as Eric Brakey back in the Maine Senate. I’m voting Brakey for Auburn, New Gloucester, Poland and Durham.
