100 Years Ago: 1922

The letters “l-i-b-r-a-r-y” have been formed on the lawn fronting the Pine Street side of the Lewiston Public Library. They have been planted with flowers and are due soon to bloom, as in past years.

50 Years Ago: 1972

Between four and five hundred Cub Scouts in the Abnaki District assembled at Pettengill Park today for the annual fun day activities. Events of the day included team competitions in a stilt race, tug-of-war, obstacle race, sack race, three-legged race, weight-throwing contest, pack relay race, chariot race, pinewood derby and rocket derby. Many parents were on hand to observe the activities.

25 Years Ago: 1997

(From a Journal photo) The first Wheels Rodeo attracted a large turnout at Mountain at Valley High School in Rumford last weekend. Among those who tried their skills were Tyler Mason, 5, who was guided by his mother, Lori, around the course.
