100 Years Ago: 1922
Members of Mary Dillingham Chapter are anticipating with much pleasure the annual outing to the Bryant home on Webster Road Saturday all day. Auburn members will meet at Getchell’s Drug Store at 10 o’clock (daylight savings time) and Lewiston, at Peck’s store, five minutes later. Transportation will be by Leonard Ott’s motor trucks.
50 Years Ago: 1972
Seven scholarships, including a new Memorial Scholarship, will be presented tonight to Edward Little High School band members. The presentations will take place at a concert on the green, at 7 o’clock. The Memorial Scholarship founded by Philip and Margaret Mower is administered by the High Street Congregational Church. Allen Simonds, music director, will make the presentations.
25 Years Ago: 1997
Diane Gusher, 4-H leader of the Saco Valley Beef, Dairy and Sheep Club, tells students from Fryeburg Elementary School about club activities and programs during Alternative Enrichment Day. Club leaders and members are active in a new judging program, Maine 4-H Days, the Beef Expo, county and state fairs, and Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, Mass. Each year the club takes educational trips to professional shows and breeding farms. 4-H is the youth development program of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and is open to youths ages 5 to 19.
