Veikko W. Piirainen
NORWAY – Veikko W. Piirainen, 99, of West Paris, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Stephens Memorial Hospital. He was born in West Paris on June 5, 1923, the son of Antti and Kaisa Maatta Piirainen.
He graduated from Paris High School and served in the U. S. Army. He had been a self-employed woodsman.
He was extraordinarily proud of his Finnish heritage and travelled to Finland in 2005. He was a member of the Finnish American Heritage Society, West Paris American Legion and Paris High School Alumni Association. He enjoyed sports, attending high school football, baseball and track events. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by a nephew Dale Piirainen and wife Loraine, nieces Dian Rainey and husband Wade and Lillian Doughty; and several grand nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and his siblings.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 2 p.m. at the Finnish Cemetery in West Paris. Family and friends may attend visitation on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 45 Main St., South Paris. 04289.
