Riley Gray of Livermore Falls has been awarded the the 2014 Diane E. Curtis Medical Scholarship, established that year to honor the late wife of Thomas Curtis, a Norway resident.

This $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student scholar residing in either Oxford County (where Diane Curtis lived) or Androscoggin County (the county in which she received treatment) who wishes to pursue a career in the medical field.

Gray, a student at the University of Maine, Augusta, is pursuing a career in dental hygiene, according to a news release from Tom Curtis.

To become a recipient of this medical scholarship, a student must complete an application form while also discussing in what community and volunteer activities he/she is involved, what leadership qualities he/she has displayed, a transcript of that student’s most recent academic grades, at least two letters of recommendation, and the reasons behind the applicant’s decision to pursue this career path.

Gray will receive a check for the scholarship amount upon completion of her next semester and the submittal of her grades.
