Rejane L. Lemieux

LEWISTON – Rejane L. Lemieux, 90, of Lewiston, passed away at her home on June 15, 2022, after a lengthy illness.

Rejane was born on Sept. 12, 1931, to Eddie and Ida (Cote) Levesque in Lewiston. She attended Lewiston schools.

As a child, she helped the family by picking beans for Charlie Moore and was a champion bean picker. Rejane was one of seven girls and had a very close relationship with her sister Lorette, her fishing buddy. She also traveled to see her sister, Irene and husband, Gene visiting places they were stationed.

Rejane was introduced to Laurent by his sister, Rose Richard. Eventually, she fell in love with this brown-eyed guitar playing man with the curly hair and shiny shoes.

After marrying Larry, they spent many years building houses together. It was common to see Rejane on the roof, pregnant, swinging a hammer. In later years, after raising seven children, she was employed by Androscoggin Home Health and earned multiple awards for her superior work ethic, loving care and exceptional ability to relate to her French clients. Following her 20 years of caring, she went on to volunteer for another 10 years with the company.

She was a world traveler, a proficient knitter, puzzle maker and dabbled with woodworking. In her later life, Rejane spent much time listening to WLAM oldies, bird watching and identifying different species which visited her multiple feeders. She was partial to her cardinals, Larry and Ida.

Her faith was important to her and she participated in Mass every Sunday, even through the pandemic via live stream. Rejane loved to travel and was fortunate enough to visit Jerusalem with Larry. This trip resonated with Rejane because, “ I walked in Jesus’ footsteps.” She was a member of multiple groups: Good News prayer group, St. Joseph’s Church choir, Eucharistic Minister, and the Queen’s Guild Society.

Rejane was predeceased by her husband, Larry; daughter, Ida May Real, son, Louis; granddaughter, Sarah Lewis, and grandson, Joseph Lemieux.

She is survived by her sons Paul and wife Kathie of Sabattus, Clement and wife Patricia of Lewiston, her daughters Rita Lewis and husband Philip of Sabattus, Irene Marshall and husband David of Monmouth, and Marie Lemieux and wife Jeanne Cyr of Lewiston.

Rejane was a proud grandmother to 17; great-grandmother to 24; and great-great-grandmother to two.

Visitation will be held at the Albert and Burpee Funeral Home, on Tuesday, June 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Church on Wednesday, June 22 at 1 p.m., followed by graveside committal prayers at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Good Shepherd Food Bank and Androscoggin Humane Society, where she adopted Sally and Bella.
