The Multi-Purpose Center, in Lewiston will offer a new program this summer called “Read and Rec.” This free eight-week program is scheduled twice a week and is geared toward children ages preschool through 12. The main focus of the sessions is to provide an opportunity for youth to join with adult volunteers to read books as well as participate in organized recreational activities. The time spent with the adult role model should also help the participants improve their reading, listening and comprehension skills and encourage socialization with other area children. Funding to operate the project was received by the “Energized To Do More in L-A” Committee, sponsored by Northern Utilities Natural Gas. The program will operate Tuesday through Aug. 7 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m.
