Janine Audet works in her flower garden Wednesday at her home in Auburn. Audet said the house she moved into 22 years ago sat on such an odd lot, but she was determined to make the land useable. “I grew up in a third-floor apartment, so I figured this is what I was supposed to do if I ever had a yard. … Some days when I am tired, I forget why I do it. But then I remember that it makes people smile,” Audet said about her neighbors, who often walk by the garden. Daryn Slover/Sun Journal
