
NEWRY —The Spirit of America Foundation Tribute is presented in the name of Maine municipalities to local individuals, organizations, and projects for commendable community service. Since Alma Jones received the first Spirit of America award from Augusta Mayor William Burney on Nov. 26, 1991, the tribute has been presented at 500+ ceremonies.
Arlan Jodrey, graduate of Gould Academy (1954), US Army Reserves (1959-64), past Selectmen (1974-93), past Planning Board member (1961-66), past radio study committee member (1976-83), past Bethel Assessor (1973-98), Bethel Masonic Lodge since (1979), Municipal Facility Committee (1979-85), volunteer Bethel firefighter (1972-85), Bethel Airport Authority (1996-2021) a State Representative (1998-2006) was awarded the Bethel Spirit of America Award on June 14, at the Annual Town Meeting.
