ANSWER: What a beautiful time of year to gather for a church supper. I bet the strawberry shortcake will be especially good. I hope you have a great turnout.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My 7-year-old daughter’s nonprofit, From Lil with Love, is on a big mission to give outside toys to children living in shelters. They have nothing to play with outside and we need your help. There is a need for balls of any kind, baseball bats, baseball gloves, Velcro ball games, Wiffle balls and bats and lawn games such as badminton, croquet.

Also, Frisbees, outside push toys, water tables, kiddie pools, sprinklers, sand toys, jump ropes, toy construction vehicles, Scoop and Toss game, kids’ minigolf sets, sidewalk chalk, kids’ garden tools, kids’ bowling sets, and sunscreen.

Sun Spots readers have been very generous to us in the past, so we are asking for help again. We will accept gently used items as well as new. Please message me at fromlilwithlove@hotmail.com or 577-6234 for delivery/pickup details. Thank you so much for your help! — Laura, no town

ANSWER: This little girl has done so much for the area’s homeless children. I hope you can all give her a hand with her project.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do you have any names in your Rolodex of companies that purchase used furniture for resale? — Joanne, Auburn

ANSWER: I don’t have any names of consignment shops that buy furniture so I’m putting this request out to Sun Spotters. To answer this thoroughly and save a buyer’s time, it would be good to know what exactly you have. Are your items vintage or antiques? What style are they and what condition are they in? Do you have a pet-free/smoke-free home? You will be asked all these questions. You may be better off selling your furniture on Facebook Marketplace or placing a classified ad in the Sun Journal. To do that, call 784-3555 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If you are thinking about a whole-house cleanout, there are local companies who can assist you. Let me know if you need those services.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have nice women’s clothing (sizes medium to large and shoes in size 9-9.5) to donate to a nonprofit organization. Can you recommend some places? — Nora, no town

ANSWER: Be sure to call ahead to check on donation drop-off times and what exactly each store is taking as their needs do change. In the Rolodex I have Kaydenz Resale Closet (577-7942); Hope Haven Gospel Mission (783-6086), The Store Next Door (for teens-755-7252); Androscoggin Hospice Thrift Store (312-5092); An Angel’s Wing Inc. ( 241-0624) and New Beginnings (795-4077). These nonprofits are all in the Lewiston-Auburn area.

If you volunteer for, or know of other charities that accept clothing, please write in.
