Health
From AARP: ‘7 Common Health Problems That Can Strike After 50.’ Some chronic conditions tend to start cropping up in midlife, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, cancer, and anxiety/depression. Read about them at https://www.aarp.org/health/conditions-treatments/info-2021/chronic-conditions-after-50.html?

And for help in addressing those problems: Healthy Living for ME is offering a variety of workshops in July. See last week’s Bethel Citizen. One of the workshops, Living Well for Better Health, is offered online by program partner, Seniors Plus, Tuesdays, 9-11:30 a.m. from July 12-August 16. This workshop will help participants deal with ongoing problems such as those listed above. Topics covered include handling frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, appropriate exercises and medication, and communicating with family, friends, and healthcare providers. Free, but registration is required. For more information, or to register: 1-800-620-6036 or www.healthylivingforme.org.

Also from AARP: “13 Free or Low-Cost Things You can do Now to Deal with Loneliness.” Staying close to family and friends is often vital to aging well and living a long, meaningful life. People who connect socially are generally healthier, happier, and better able to confront whatever obstacles are thrown their way, reports show. Conversely, those who are socially isolated may sleep less, abuse alcohol or drugs more, and experience bouts of loneliness. They may suffer from depression or dementia or face other serious health problems. https://www.aarp.org/home-family/friends-family/info-2022/dealing-with-loneliness.html?
