100 Years Ago: 1922

It is understood that President Harding is to spend a part of his vacation here in Bar Harbor this year. Details of the presidential trip have not been of his vacation have not been received, but the report comes from a source which is thoroughly reliable. According to this report the visit to Bar Harbor will be made about the middle or last of August. In all probability the presidential party will come to Bar Harbor, on the yacht, the Mayflower and is expected to remain in the harbor throughout the trip. This will be the first visit of a president since President Taft was here in 1910 and the second visit of a president since Mr. Taft was at Poland Spring and Portland in 1912.

50 Years Ago: 1972

The Auburn Community  Action Team held a meeting at the old fire station in Auburn Thursday evening, when plans for food and rummage sales and a fund-raising project were| discussed. Appointed to serve on the committee for these events were Frances Passalaqua, Nancy Duprey, Doris Lafrance, Virginia Burgess and Sharon McNutt. Members also discussed other matters of interest to the group.

25 Years Ago: 1997

Shirley Dubord, switchboard operator et G.H. Bass & Co. in Wilton for 29 years, was honored with a week long retirement celebration during the week of May 11. Terri Davis, manager, expressed her appreciation for Dubord’s tenure. An employee who retires after that many years, she said, leaves with a vast amount of knowledge that is impossible to give to another employee.
