LEWISTON — An Auburn man was charged with beating an elderly man and robbing him Thursday morning as he withdrew cash from an ATM on Main Street.
Police arrested Jonathan Edwards, 24, on charges of robbery, theft and assault, and were searching later Thursday for a second suspect.
Police said they were called about 8 a.m. to Dirigo Federal Credit Union at 391 Main St., where they found the victim, who reported he had been assaulted and robbed by two men.
The man said he had just made a withdrawal from the ATM outside the credit union, investigators said.
Lewiston police began canvassing the area, speaking with witnesses and gathering video footage in the area.
While searching, police said, officers found Edwards a block away and who matched the description of one of the suspects. He was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, where his bail was set at $5,000.
