Area quilting group Stitchers in the Snow recently awarded Quilts of Valor to local veterans. Quilts of Valor (QOV) is a national foundation that awards quilts to current service members and military veterans. Danielle Mathieu, a member of Stitchers in the Snow, reported that in addition to the pictured ceremony, her group has awarded 58 QOV. They are funded by donations and raffle profits.

Mike Shirley received his QOV last year, but the other four veterans pictured – Moe Plog, Norman Haggan, Butch Dolbier, and Steve Smith — were honored on Saturday, June 11, at Cathedral Pines Campground in Eustis, ME. The red, white, and blue quilts, awarded by Mathieu and Diane Christen, represent a heartfelt thanks for the veterans’ service. The hard work of the Stitchers in the Snow paid off in these beautiful expressions of appreciation.
