JAY — Summer Celebration will be the theme at New Life Baptist Church for the next several weeks. The church is hosting special celebrations every week from now through Labor Day Sunday. Each Sunday starts at 10:30 a.m. Every Sunday morning features a different theme for the week, followed by a light lunch.

Pastor Chris Grimbilas is excited about this time of community outreach. “It has been a hard summer for so many families in the community, we wanted to offer families a little bit of God honoring fun.”

The church kicks off their “Summer Celebration” on July 31 with Super Soaker Sunday. Folks are asked to bring a good attitude, a towel, and wear dark clothes that you don’t mind getting wet. Other events over the course of the month include Ice Cream Sunday, Fiesta Sunday, Aloha Sunday, and more.  On Sunday, August 28, the church has a limited number of school supplies to give to all K-12 students who attend that morning. Notebooks, paper, pencils and more will be passed out to the young people.

The “Summer Celebration” will end on Labor Day Sunday. Each week, everyone who attends will receive “prize tickets.” September 4, tickets will be drawn for gift cards, restaurant gift certificates, scooters and other prizes. There are prizes for all ages. The rules for the prize drawings say that ticket holders must be present to win.

On Independence Day weekend, New Life Baptist Church sponsored a free community carnival at French Falls in Jay. It was a huge success for the community and the church. Over 300 people came throughout the day to enjoy the games, the bounce house, and the food. It was the fourth time the church had put on the carnival, but the first time at French Falls. Earlier in the summer, New Life Baptist Church held Vacation Bible School. When asked why the church was sponsoring so many summer activities, Pastor Grimbilas had this response. “Church should be a place where we can come with our families and have a little fun in the process. The Bible is real and relevant to life today, talking about issues like making the most of your money, getting along with your friends and family, having peace in the home, overcoming obstacles in life, and a whole lot more that we deal with in life right now. At New Life Baptist Church, we look to the Lord for help with all of these issues, but we strive to establish an environment where people enjoy church and seek God’s blessings in the process.”

New Life Baptist Church is located at 66 Hyde Rd. in Jay. There are Bible classes on Sunday for all ages at 9:30 a.m. Church services follow the Bible classes at 10:30 am. There is a family Bible hour at 1 p.m. on Sunday and a prayer service and Bible Study at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. “Summer Celebration” tickets are being given at every service and the “Summer Celebration” activities are being held on Sunday mornings in conjunction with the Sunday morning service. Everyone is invited.
