Phyllis Evelyn Twitchell Hobbs

AUBURN – Phyllis Evelyn Twitchell Hobbs, 76, of Turner, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022, at the Androscoggin Hospice House. She was born in Norway on Dec. 29, 1945, the daughter of Albert and Louise Snow Twitchell. She grew up on a small farm on Fore Street in Oxford. She attended school in Welchville, then Oxford Elementary before graduating from Norway High School in 1964. She went on to receive her BA Degree from Barrington College in Rhode Island.

She married William L. Hobbs on June 25, 1972. They resided on Upper Street in Turner. They loved gardening together and were always excited when the seed catalog came. They mowed lawns and helped with snow removal for people in the area.

She taught grade two at North Turner Elementary School until the building burned down, then in temporary classrooms in a wing at Leavitt Area High School until the new school was built.

Later she moved to Turner Primary School where she taught until retirement in 2000.

Phyllis taught Sunday school and Bible school as well as playing the organ/piano at Turner Village Church and Wayside Bible Baptist Church. Music was her joy and testimony. She hosted many Good News Clubs for Christian Youth Action and assisted in the Good News Club at Paris Christian Academy. During the later years of her life she sponsored a girl under Compassion International from Jimma, Ethiopia. It was her joy to correspond with her.

Phyllis was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her brother Lincoln Albert Twitchell; and her brother-in-law Harold Knightly. She is survived by her stepchildren: Cathy Dunlap, Bill Hobbs and Audrey Hobbs and husband Armand Couillard; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Margaret Knightly and Joanne Volpe and husband Paul; and her brothers Roger Twitchell and wife Margaret and Donald Twitchell and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, at 11 a.m.. at Wayside Bible Baptist Church, 1724 Federal Road, Livermore, with an hour of visitation from 10-11 a.m., prior to.
