August marks the first anniversary of the Winthrop History and Heritage Center at 107 Main St.

Plans are under way for a month full of celebration. Each week in August there will be a free drawing of items from local businesses. People can stop by the center to see the objects on display and browse the gift shop.

The first free ticket just for visiting will be put into the weekly drawing. With purchases from the gift shop a second ticket also will go in the drawing.

Cookies and drinks will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, during the Winthrop Art Festival. Financial support from local businesses and individual donors, along with grants received, have made it possible to reach this occasion, according to a news release from the center.

Donations for the weekly drawing have been provided by Main Street Mercantile, My Sister’s Pizza, Parks Performance, Pickle’s Potions and Lotions, Sully’s Tavern, Tavern on the Hill 305, Ted’s Trackside Grill and the Winthrop Area Federal Credit Union.

Hours at the center are 1-5 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
