100 Years Ago: 1922

A report of Dr. Beals and Dr. Fairbanks, who are  examining all the cows in Lewiston and vicinity for tubercular symptoms, shows that only one-half of percent of the animals treated have been found diseased. The total number examined up to date has been 781, and 4 of this number were tubercular.

50 Years Ago: 1972

Seavey’s Store, Inc., now and for many years located at the Corner of Court Street and Minot Avenue, Auburn, will be moving into a new home in the near future, just a short distance down the street. The building in which the popular variety store stands is in the way of the bypass and must come down.

Proprietor Ralph Wyman told the journal today he will move into the building at 156 Court St., located adjacent to the Auburn’s Fire Station, now occupied by the Manpower Development and Training Agency.

Wyman said the State Highway Commission has given him until the end of September to vacate the current premises. He said he would continue the same type of operation at the new location.

25 Years Ago: 1997

Helen Bouley of Auburn. a Central Maine Medical Center volunteer, was honored recently on the occasion of her 97th birthday. Bouley, one of CMMC’s star volunteers, has given more than 7,500 hours at the medical center. She volunteers twice a week, specializing in patient mail delivery and general errands. She also answers phones, transports x-rays and escorts to the discharge lobby patients who are going home.

At her home she maintains a showpiece flower garden and likes to cook. Bouley has a way of doing nice things for people without them even knowing who did it. She’s an inspirational woman who has spent most of her life learning, working and serving her community. She gives of her time to people of all ages, hospital officials say.
