GRAY — Mikey Ryan ran for a touchdown and passed for another to help lead Gray-New Gloucester to a season-opening 26-12 victory over neighboring Greely in an 8-man football game Thursday at Myles Burbank Memorial Field.
Miles Post opened the scoring for the Patriots (1-0), then Ryan accounted for two touchdowns in the second quarter to give Gray-New Gloucester an 18-0 halftime lead. He ran in his first touchdown, then connected with Nick Geer for a catch-and-run for a second score.
The Rangers (0-1), who were making their 8-man football debut after previously playing in a cooperative program with Falmouth when their 11-man roster numbers dwindled, broke onto the scoreboard in the second half to cut the deficit to 18-6. But Brady Castrucci answered for Gray-New Gloucester to stretch the Patriots’ lead back out to three scores.
