HIRAM — Join Jimmie Veitch of White Mountain Mushrooms for a guided mushroom foray at the Tenmile River Demonstration Forest!
During our hike, we will learn about the weird and wonderful mushrooms that grow here in Maine. Topics covered will include identification, ecology, edibility, and utility. Participants are invited to bring fresh examples of mushrooms from their own locale (in paper bags or wrapped in paper towel). No prior mushrooming experience is needed!
The foray will be on Saturday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Hiram, hosted by Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District
This event is rain or shine, so come prepared for the weather. We will only cancel if conditions are severe.
Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated. We recommend $15 to help cover the cost of this program. Participants must register ahead of time. The event is limited to 25 participants. To learn more and register, please visit our website at oxfordcountyswcd.org/workshops no later than Friday, September 30, so we know how many to expect and can contact you in case of cancelation due to rain.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
