Richard Michael Dominic Caron

LEWISTON – Richard Michael Dominic Caron, 74, longtime resident of Lewiston, passed away Wednesday morning Sept. 7, 2022, with family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston Jan. 17, 1948, one of three children born to Roland and Ida (Rodrigue) Caron. Richard was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1966.

He was a military veteran having served his country in the U.S. Air Force until his Honorable Discharge. Following his time in the service, he married the former Diane Lapointe on Aug. 31, 1968 and together they settled in Lewiston to raise their family and remained lifelong residents.

In 1975 Richard started his first business, Fine Arts Ornamental, Inc., which he owned for many years. He also has worked at International Paper and Bath Iron Works. Richard’s more recent business he owned and operated was R.C. Specialty Sheetmetal and Fabrication Inc. in Lewiston, which supplied materials for and completed industrial building projects all over New England.

Among his favorite hobbies and enjoyments was buying and selling cars. He did this for a time before starting up his sheetmetal business and also continued it through the years and into retirement.

Richard loved spending time with his friends golfing at Apple Valley or frequenting his favorite restaurants, Fran’s, Fire House Grill, Greco’s and the Chickadee.

Richard and Diane loved vacationing in Aruba and Florida and always welcomed friends and family to join them. While wintering in Florida, he especially enjoyed the warm outdoors and did a lot of biking, boating and barbeques. One of his greatest pleasures were the many good times spent with his family and spoiling his grandchildren. Richard was a loving and very caring husband, as he spent over 10 years caring for his wife at home as her illness progressed, until he could no longer do so. He was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Diane Caron of Lewiston; his two daughters, Shannon Caron of Falmouth and son-in-law, Michael McGonagle, and Danielle Tapley of Lewiston, his son, Ryan Caron and girlfriend, Jennifer Langlois of Lewiston; his grandchildren Rylan, Reid, Olivia and Madison; his sister, Joline Caron of Lewiston, sisters-in-law Claire Plourde and husband Maurice of Lewiston, Louise Lapointe of Auburn, and Janice Caron of Hartford; and nieces Laurie, Debbie, Lisa, Michelle and Nicole and nephews Randy and Jeff.
