RANGELEY, ME. – The votes are in and Saddleback Mountain has been named the 2022 Readers’ Choice for “Best Ski Mountain” in Maine by Down East magazine. The September issue of Down East covers everything from playing outdoors to eating and shopping.

Winners of the “Best of Maine” awards are selected for one of two categories: the Readers’ Choice or the Editors’ Choice. Ideas for the annual Editors’ Choice Best of Maine Down East are collected throughout the year as the magazine’s editors and contributors travel the state. The Readers’ Choice nominees are identified and voted on by thousands of Down East readers each year. Individual categories include Food & Drink, Shopping & Lifestyle, Travel & Play, Arts & Culture, and Home & Garden.

Located in beautiful Rangeley, in the heart of the Western Maine High Peaks region, Saddleback Mountain opened in 1960 and has grown its reputation for exceptional snow, some of the best terrain in the East, and friendly, laid-back culture. At 4,120′ of elevation and 2,000′ of vertical, Saddleback is Maine’s third-largest mountain and the largest independently owned mountain in the East. Its base lodge elevation of 2,460’ is the highest in the East. Saddleback overlooks the iconic village of Rangeley, which is the gateway to Rangeley Lake, Mooselookmeguntic, and Richardson Lakes.

Since re-opening in 2020, Saddleback has invested millions of dollars in mountain improvements, including new lift and snowmaking infrastructure, a renovated base lodge, a new Mid Mountain Lodge, slope-side employee housing, more on-mountain lodging, mountain bike trails, and a solar farm. With construction projects in full swing and snowmaking improvements underway, Saddleback is actively preparing for the 2022/2023 winter season and plans to open in early December 2022.

“It is an honor knowing Down East readers chose Saddleback for Best Ski Mountain, but it’s not a surprise,” said Jim Quimby, Saddleback’s General Manager. “Many people may think of us as the underdog, but the Saddleback faithful who stood by us through the years know we’re making a comeback for generations to come. We’ve reopened bigger and better. We are committed to defying the resort norm every day and giving skiers and riders a better experience. Thank you to our loyal friends and fans, and for those of you who haven’t visited us yet, know that you’re always welcome at Saddleback.”
