The city of Auburn is seeking a beautiful, local tree to use in Festival Plaza this holiday season.

The ideal tree will be located in Auburn. It must be an evergreen — spruce or fir — at least 25 feet tall, and relatively accessible with no close power lines or other obstructions, according to a news release from the city.

The selected tree will be removed and transported by the Auburn Public Works Department at no cost to the property owner.

Once in place, it will be decorated by the team at public works. It is scheduled to be illuminated on Saturday, Dec. 3, during the city’s annual holiday parade, officially kicking off the holiday season.

Tree donors will be publicly recognized and invited to the lighting ceremony. The tree will remain at Festival Plaza throughout the holiday season.

Residents and property owners who wish to donate a tree and help bring holiday cheer to downtown Auburn are encouraged to submit their tree for consideration.

The nomination form can be found online at auburnmaine.gov. Entries are due by Friday, Oct. 28.
