Walter L. Downs

MEXICO – Walter L. Downs, 95, passed away on Monday Sept. 19, 2021 at his son’s residence in Andover, Maine. He resided in Mexico, Maine.

Born in Mexico on Nov. 12, 1926, he was the son of Lester and Velma (Virgin) Downs. Walter worked in the Steam Plant for the Oxford Paper Company and Boise Cascade, currently known as ND Paper, for many years. He also repaired televisions, back in the day, and he loved to tinker on things.

Survivors include six sons, Walter Downs, Jr. of Rumford, Bradley Downs and wife Corinne of Andover, Christopher Downs and wife Rebecca of New York, Stephen Downs and wife Rosiland of Carmel, Maine, Albert Downs, Timothy and wife Shelly of Andover, two daughters, Darlene Fitzgerald of Roxbury, Diane Breton and husband Al of Rumford; two siblings, George Downs of Carthage and Herbert Downs of Canton; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Brenda Pache; a granddaughter, Amy Downs; and two sisters, Lillian Richards and Jennie Wing.
