First Universalist Church of West Paris has announced its October worship services.
Worship services are scheduled for 9 a.m. every Sunday at 208 Main St., West Paris, with music by Tom Coolidge, followed with coffee hour, according to a news release from Suzanne Dunham, church member.
Oct. 2, “Twilight and Evening Star,” is led by Cynthia Reedy, who will discuss how the lessons of the autumnal season help navigate and welcome the twilight time of people’s lives.
A frequent speaker at the First Universalist Church of West Paris, Reedy is a third-generation Unitarian and was raised to recognize and celebrate the beauty and wonder of the world. She recently retired from a career teaching science and language at Hebron Academy.
Oct. 9, “Celebrating Indigenous People’s Day” is led by the Rev. Fayre Stephenson. Monday, Oct. 10 is Indigenous Peoples’ Day. On this day of reconciliation and healing, the church will celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ strides toward reclaiming justice.
Oct. 16, “Making “Aging” Renewable” is led by Maryli Tiemann, a visiting speaker. Tiemann is a member of the Brunswick UU Church, interested in humor, Buddhism, and poetry. She will share thoughts on transitions, like growing older and seeing ourselves as resources. And how churches, going through a similar transition these days, might have what the communities are thirsting for.
Oct. 23, “Sacred Nature” is led by Stephenson. Once seen as vitally part of the sacred interdependent web of all that there is, today humanity’s spiritual relationship with nature is too often broken, according to the news release. Using Karen Armstrong’s book, “Sacred Nature” as a guide, attendees will consider the spiritual insights and practices that can help reclaim primordial link to nature.
On Oct. 30 the congregation will join with the Universalist Church of South Paris, 36 Pine St., South Paris for a worship service, which starts at 9:30 a.m. Refreshments follow the service.
