To the Editor:

This past summer, the Bethel Outing Club offered an 8 week Summer Mountain Bike Series that was free and open to riders of all ages and abilities. Riders could show up Monday evenings between 4 and 6 p.m. and get timed on any or all three of the trails at Gould Academy’s Pine Hill – which vary in length and difficulty.

This allowed riders to see how they did week to week, often seeing improvements in their abilities and/or times, as well as being able to compare themselves with others. We had riders from 3 years old on a balance bike doing the Mini course to 72 years old doing the two longer courses.

Many thanks to Gould Academy for the use of their trails and Vboards! Thanks also to those who helped with registrations and timing – Beth Hodgdon, who was there throughout the summer, and Katie Casey, Kristen Seib, Katy Crooker, and Ann Speth, who helped when Beth or I couldn’t be there. It was fun to see mountain bikers each week, so thanks to all who came and rode. Hope to see you on the trails next year!

The Bethel Outing Club’s next event will be the annual Ski Sale October 28 and 29. New and used ski and snowboard gear, as well as other winter sporting gear, will be on sale Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. til noon at Gould’s Field House on Church St. More about the Bethel Outing Cub can be found at bethelouting.org.
