AUBURN — Senior College in the Community’s next presentation, set for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, will be by Dr. Tora Johnson and entitled “Dignity in Public Discourse.”

This event, in collaboration with the Auburn Public Library, will be held in the library’s Androscoggin Room at 49 Spring St.

Those who attend can learn about dignity theory, explore the role it plays in public debates over controversial issues, and learn best practices for supporting dignity and moving forward together, according to a news release from Susan Brown, public relations with the Senior College.

Johnson is chair of environmental and biological sciences the University of Maine at Machias. She earned her doctorate in human dimensions of natural resources from the University of Maine.

Her current social and spatial science research focuses on supporting sustainable and prosperous rural communities in a changing world. She has collaborated with installation artists and sculptors on community place-based installation art projects.

Her award-winning book, “Entanglements: The Intertwined Fates of Whales and Fisherman,” was released in 2005.
