The board of directors of the Maine Running Hall of Fame named nine individuals who have made significant contributions to the sport of running in Maine. Also being honored will be the Maine Marathon with its legacy race, the Casco Bay Marathon. These nine individuals and the Maine Marathon will be recognized at the Maine Running Hall of Fame at its 21st induction ceremony to be held on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022 at the Governor’s Hill Mansion, Augusta, Maine.

Kelly Bennett Brown (Lewiston, Maine), Ralph Fletcher (Auburn, Maine), Gladys Ganiel O’Neill (Harrington, Maine), Louis Luchini (Ellsworth, Maine), Kevin McDonald (Fryeburg, Maine), Glendon Rand (Orrington, Maine), Andy Spaulding (Freeport, Maine), Maureen Sproul (Lewiston, Maine), Tim Wakeland (Dedham, Maine), Maine Marathon, formerly the Casco Bay Marathon (Portland, Maine)

Kelly Bennett Brown – Was born in Heidelberg, West Germany however she hails from Lewiston.. Kelly ran the mile and 100-meter hurdles for Lewiston High School. She went on to run cross-country at the University of Southern Maine where she achieved the title of Maine state cross-country champion and ECAC Division III Champion. She is a legacy runner in the Beach to Beacon Road Race competing every year since its start. Kelly continues to run competitively and place in her age group at 57 years of age.

Ralph Fletcher – Competed in cross-country and on the track team at Edward Little High School. He ran the mile and 880 to help Edward Little win the state title at that time. Ralph went on to the University of New Hampshire, where he set the record for the freshman indoor mile. After college, he began running on road races always placing on the leaderboard. Ralph has coached cross country at Edward Little High School and outdoor track at Leavitt High School. He founded the Greater LA Triple Crown 5K Road Races.

Maureen Sproul – Hails from Lewiston, Maine. She has a passion for alpine running. Maureen trains at Lost Valley Ski area and has completed the Mt. Washington Road Race eight times. She has run over 500 races in four decades of running. In 1996, Maureen was awarded the Maine Master’s Runner of the Year. In 2012, she received the Maine Track Club Runner of the Year. Maureen has run with the Maine Track Club, PR Racing, Maine Road Hags, Trail Monster Running, Winners Running Club, Unum Track Team, the November Project and the Portland Sweat Project.

The Maine Running Hall of Fame induction ceremony and banquet is open to the public. Space is limited, so reservations are strongly recommended. The ceremony takes place at the Governor Hill Mansion, 136 State St., Augusta beginning at noon with a social hour, followed by lunch and the induction ceremony. The Maine Running Hall of Fame was established in 1988  with the intent to recognize individuals and events that make significant contributions to the sport of running in Maine. The Maine Running Hall of Fame Board of Directors includes Robert Ayotte, Michael Carter, Todd Coffin, Anne-Marie Davee, Michael Gaige, Tracy Guerrette, Don Harden, Glen Holyoke, Chandra Leister, Sarah Mulcahy, Christine Snow-Reaser, Deke Talbot and Jim Toulouse.
