We had about a dozen correct answers for last week’s Mystery Photo of the “Oxford Bear” handtub, an early firefighting apparatus on display in the lobby of the Norway Municipal Building on Danforth Street in Norway. A handtub often consists of a tub-shaped reservoir of water on wheels and a large pump that is hand operated by rapidly raising and lowering handles attached to the pump. The whole apparatus is normally pulled by hand to a fire, but can be hitched to horses for longer distances. In a random drawing from all the correct entries, Edna Olmstead of Oxford was picked as the winner of a $20 Hannaford Supermarket gift card.
