SOUTH PARIS — Community Food Matters, the community food council serving the Oxford Hills area, is working with Oxford Hills Schools to host a Farm to School Forum.

The event is scheduled for 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the School Administrative District 17 administrative offices, 232 Main St. A tour of the cafeteria and kitchen will follow.

October is National Farm to School Month, an annual campaign to recognize, appreciate and celebrate the connections happening across the country between children, families and their community food systems.

The Oxford Hills Farm to School Team attended the first Maine Farm and Sea to School Institute, held over three days in August at the Ecology School in Saco. It was one of three district teams in Maine chosen to participate.

At the Institute, the Oxford Hills Team planned a year-long project working on the three Cs of successful Farm to School Projects: Cafeterias become inviting places that provide opportunities to learn, connect and nourish student bodies; Classrooms provide intentional, experiential learning opportunities that connect students to their community so they are engaged in how food nourishes their bodies, how it is produced, and how it enriches the community; and the Community invests in local food systems that support healthy people, a robust economy and a resilient environment through the Farm to School Program.

The forum will share news about the project and engage those who want to support this work. Snacks will be provided by the school Nutrition Program.
