SABATTUS — Three people were hurt Tuesday afternoon when three cars collided at Crowley and Middle roads.
Fire crews were called about 3:15 p.m. to extricate two of the five people involved. Three of them were taken to Lewiston hospitals with injuries described as not life-threatening.
The identities of the five were not immediately available. The collision was being investigated later Tuesday by the Sabattus Police Department.
The crash occurred at the intersection where Crowley Road meets Middle and Bowdoinham Road, an area known for bad wrecks. Sabattus Fire Chief Troy Cailler said there have been two serious crashes there this week.
Middle Road is also Route 9.
As a result of its troubled history, the intersection was due to switch to a four-way stop earlier this month. That new pattern was recently postponed and is now scheduled to take place Wednesday. Town officials say starting then, the intersection will be a four-way stop with blinking red lights to notify motorists of the changes.
