Jean C. Hathorne

AUBURN – Jean C. Hathorne, passed away Oct. 21, 2022, in Auburn. She was a longtime resident of Schooner Estates/Schooner Memory Care.

Jean was born in Lewiston on March 26, 1926, the only child of Harold L. and Hazel D. (Coston) Corey of Auburn. Jean graduated from ELHS in 1944 and was active in class reunions. She was also active in the Auburn Art club and the CMMC Women’s Hospital Association.

Jean married Lawrence W. Hathorne in Auburn on Nov. 24, 1944. Lawrence will be remembered as a longtime local pastor. Jean and Larry spent most of their lives in Auburn with fond memories of living in Poland Spring for a while. Jean and Lawrence were very active with the Kora Shrine, traveling extensively with the shrine. Jean was an avid quilter and enjoyed playing Bridge. Both were over 75-year members of the United Methodist Church of Auburn.

Jean is survived by her son, Jim Hathorne and his wife Susan of Lyman, daughter Nancy and husband Peter Walker of Sequim, Wash., and son Bill Hathorne of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren: (Jim’s) Lori Tanguay and husband Michael of Gorham and Becky Hathorne of Kennebunk, and (Nancy’s) Corey Walker and wife Amy of Pueblo, Colo., and Emily Walker and her family of Sequim Wash.

She leaves eight great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Jason, Allison, Madeline, Rachel, Natalie; Grant; and Sarah; plus a new great-great-grandson Nemo Del Tanguay.

Graveside service will be held at the Highland Cemetery, West Poland, at the convenience of the family.
