Sister Madeleine Normand
BIDDEFORD – Sr. Madeleine Normand (Alphonse-de-Marie) passed away unexpectedly at St. Joseph Convent in Biddeford, Maine, on Oct. 25, 2022. Sr. Madeleine was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, on Oct. 16, 1939, the only child of the late Alphonse and Elphegina (Guillet) Normand. She professed vows as a Sister of the Presentation of Mary on Aug. 15, 1959.
Sr. Madeleine received a bachelor’s degree from Rivier College, Nashua, New Hampshire and taught at the grammar school level for many years. In the early 1990s she completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education and in 1995 she received certification by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. For 20 years, Sr. Madeleine served as a very caring and compassionate Chaplain at St. Mary’s Hospital and d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston, Maine ministering to the sick and the elderly, as well as the families and staff of both facilities. She had a devoted heart for those in need and also worked very passionately at fundraising for the poor in Haiti. She is predeceased by her dearest and best friend Frances Rondeau whom she considered family and she is survived by Robert Rondeau and her beloved godchild, Brad Rondeau and his family.
Burial will be private at St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford, Maine on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022 in the Chapel at Presentation of Mary Academy in Hudson, New Hampshire.
