Carroll M. Stevens

OXFORD – Carroll M. Stevens, 92 of Oxford passed away on Oct. 27, 2022 at his home in Oxford, with his family by his side. He was born in Buckfield, Feb. 10, 1930, the son of Floyd Stevens and Ina Viitala Davis. He graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1949 where he was active in many sports, but his real education took place in the course of life, learning the value of hard work at an early age.

On Aug. 23, 1953, he married his sweetheart, Shirley L. Jordan, in Turner, Me and they have been happily married for over 69 years. They lived many years in Mechanic Falls before he was transferred to various places including Baldwinsville, N.Y., Indianapolis, Ind., Durham, N.H., Clifton Park, N.Y. and Kentwood, Mich. He served in the Maine National Guard and worked for several years testing milk and breeding cows for the Maine Breeding Corp. Beginning in the early ’60s, he spent the rest of his career working for J.I. Case Company filling various roles.

He retired to his lakeside home on Thompson Lake in Oxford where his home was a gathering place for many family and friends. Carroll was a 67 year member of Tyrian Lodge #73 AF&AM and Dwinal Chapter O.E.S. now Mt. View Chapter #197.

He was a faithful family man who enjoyed seeing the success of all his children in the activities in which they were involved. He instilled in each of them a great work ethic as well as the importance of diligence and commitment. All will miss listening to his stories from the many adventures in his life.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, and their six children; Ann Doane and husband Brian of Litchfield, N.H.; Sheryl Olstad and husband Miles of Farmington, N.H.; Sharon Goss and husband Walter of Mechanic Falls; Cynthia Engel and husband Edward of Troy, N.Y.; Carroll Jr. and wife Susie of Rochester, N.H.; and Lisa Bates and husband Ken of Grand Haven, Mich.; 21 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; two half brothers, Floyd Stevens and his wife Alicia of Woodstock and Rodney Stevens of Oxford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by siblings; Sherm Stevens, Beverly Schumitz and Glenn Stevens.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 31 at 11 a.m., at the Grace Fellowship Church, 10 Poplar Street, Oxford. Interment will be at Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Chandler Funeral Home, 26 West Dwinal Street, Mechanic Falls on Sunday, October 30, from 4-6 p.m. Public Masonic services will be conducted by Tyrian Lodge #73 at 5:30 p.m. Mt. View Chapter O.E.S. will conduct services at 5 p.m.
