AREA — The Spirit of America Foundation’s Maine Chapter has recognized two well known and respected members of our community; John and Leone Callina are the 2022 recipients of this award.
The Spirit of America Foundation, a public charity, awards this commendation to individuals and groups nominated for outstanding community service. The website reports that the organization was established in 1990 to honor volunteerism and is generously supported by individuals and businesses.
John and Leone have lived, worked and raised their family in this area for many years. The couple has donated countless hours to preparing meals for a variety of programs which feed people in our community. They generously offered their vast culinary expertise during the pandemic so that a take-out free breakfast could continue to be offered through The Table outside the Norway Grange Hall. Now that we can again feel comfortable meeting inside, John and Leone continue to practice their art in the kitchen of the Grange Hall and serving in the dining area.
he nomination was proudly made by Ron Blake and the Norway Grange and the official presentation was made at the Norway Town Office.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
