Weekend Blitz: 8-man regional final highlights slate of area playoff tilts

8-man Small South final
No. 4 Old Orchard Beach (7-2) at No. 3 Dirigo (7-2)

Class A quarterfinal
No. 6 Sanford (5-4) at No. 3 Lewiston (5-3)
Friday, 7 p.m.
When the Spartans ran through the Blue Devils in Week 1, not many would have predicted these teams would face off in the playoffs, again in Lewiston, with the Devils as the third seed.

C South semifinal
No. 5 Cheverus (6-3) at No. 1 Leavitt (8-0)
Friday, 7 p.m.
The reigning, but not defending, 8-man Large School state champion Stags get a second shot at the Hornets, who won the Week 7 meeting 41-13.

Class D quarterfinals
No. 7 Oak Hill (2-6) at No. 2 Freeport (5-3)
Friday, 6 p.m.
The Raiders have lost their past three games to tough teams. They open the playoffs against another tough team.

No. 5 Poland (4-4) at No. 4 Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale (5-3)
Friday, 7 p.m.
The Ramblers won 28-3 when these teams met three weeks ago. Three of their TDs were scored by the defense, so taking care of the ball will be key for the Knights.

No. 6 John Bapst/Bangor Christian (4-4) at No. 3 Lisbon (5-3)

The Greyhounds’ first home playoff game under the lights. They have won five of their past six, while the Crusaders have dropped three of their past four.
